In September 2012, the City of Senlis, 40 km north of Paris, announced the launching of a project planning to develop the first European Excellence Centre dedicated to Biomimicry, the CEEBIOS (Centre Européen d’Excellence en Biomimétisme de Senlis).

The project is ambitious and innovative: build a unique place, recognized and renowned for the promotion and development of biomimicry as a tool for scientific and societal transition at the international level.

By 2016, this major project located on the site of an old French army training center in Senlis, will be able to gather a campus and a technology park. Covering 10 hectares, the campus will gather research and higher education institutions, innovative start-ups using biomimicry, VSEs and SMEs but also major industrial groups. The first professional training session was conducted in September 2013.

The City of Senlis temporarily implements the project. Mid-2014, a management structure will be established. The investment required for the development of this project is estimated at 12 million for the first tranche (upgrading student housing and business centre). The State, through a “Local Revitalization Plan” signed on 13 July 2012, will participate in the financing of this project to the tune of 1.5 million Euros.
